JOB DESCRIPTION

The Intern will work with a team of full and part-time staff to identify and eliminate process inefficiencies, improve productivity and deliver increased value-add to customers through the use of Lean, Six Sigma and Toyota Production System (TPS) tools. These tools are comprised of analytical and action implementation processes for improving any aspect of a business. The work scope will vary by project, but the Intern will likely collaborate with engineering, finance, operations, sales and supply chain functions as part of the problem-solving process. This experience will enable students to interact with and have a significant impact on the various functions, operations and profitability of a business.

Reports to: Continuous Improvement Lead Analyst
Education: Undergraduate and graduate students pursuing Business, Engineering, or similar degrees
Experience: None required. Seeking energetic, ambitious individuals interested in learning TPS, and applying the TPS tools to improve the performance and competitiveness of the business
Employment: Part-Time
Compensation: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
Activities: Value stream mapping; Kaizen; time & motion studies; review of the Toyota Way and subsequent application of the TPS principals, standardization of work processes and procedures
Training: Interns will receive training in lean principles and techniques applicable to any business function
Projects: Example projects include: reducing set up times on the plant floor, implementing single piece flow in the production process and improving sales, financial, and engineering processes
Exposure: The Intern will work closely with and participate in regular report outs to the senior management team of Sypris Technologies, as well as with corporate executives from Sypris Solutions
