Job Description

The Fire Alarm System Mechanic under general supervision maintains, repairs, and modifies moderately complex electronics equipment such as, Fire Alarm Systems, Emergency Lighting systems, Radio Transmitters and Network Based Reporting Systems by performing the following essential functions:

  • Disassembles equipment, cleans, lubricates, and tests for mechanical or electrical effects. Repairs or replaces parts to correct functional deficiency.
  • Reassembles repaired component and tests for proper function within required specifications.
  • Disassembles malfunctioning systems; examines and tests mechanism and circuitry for defects.
  • Troubleshoots equipment in or out of system and replaces or repairs defective parts.
  • Works as a team member in the installation, repair, and maintenance of alarm and system by performing more simple and routine tasks such as identifying, checking, and connecting power and signal cables, replacing defective parts and assemblies or monitoring system operation by following operating and testing procedures for the system and associated test equipment.
  • Identifies and reports improper operating indications via computer-based software and/or hardware systems. Inspects systems periodically and makes necessary calibration and adjustments to ensure functioning within specified standards.
  • Prepares and implements preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements:
  • 5 Years' experience with installation, programing, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting Intelligent and Non-Intelligent fire detection and Suppression System Control Panels, IDC, NAC, SLC, Voice Evacuation Systems, Supervising Stations, and Fire Alarm Signal/Transmission Media.
  • Must maintain a valid state driver license.
  • National Institute for Certifying Engineering Technologies (NICET) - Level II or Level III Certification Fire Alarm Systems Level II or Level III Certification for Water Based Suppressions Systems
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to drive/walk/travel to various locations within the facility and satellite locations.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
