HDR is looking for a Hazardous Waste/Remediation Engineer to join our teams supporting Industrial, Waste, and Power market sectors across the Eastern U.S. This individual will assist with growing HDR's remedial engineering program through support of our environmental services with a focus on remedial design and remedial action as well as environmental permitting, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and providing oversight at large complex sites. On a day-to-day basis, this individual will be expected to:

  • Work on diverse remedial engineering projects with a wide range of contaminants (VOCs/SVOCs/metals/PCBs/NAPL/PFAS) in all types of media (soil/groundwater/sediment/bedrock/abandoned mines, etc.) utilizing innovative remedial technologies (P&T/removal/containment/dredging/ISS/chemical oxidation/bioremediation/capping).
  • Work with Project Managers and clients to develop scope, schedule and budgets for remediation projects.
  • Direct staff engineers in preparation of remedial design deliverables including engineering design reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and construction schedules with support from HDR's national remediation engineering lead.
  • Prepare reports including remedial investigations, feasibility studies, pre-design investigations, remedial design and remedial action reports.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and regulatory agencies to resolve technical issues and negotiate remedial actions.
  • Possibly function as a task manager on large remediation projects.
  • Develop and implement field investigations; primary role would be to supervise investigation team from office but may require leading investigation from field on larger projects.
  • Serve as a consultant and supervisor of remedial construction management projects as needed.
  • Work independently on technical tasks involving data analysis, interpreting results, and preparing technical reports, plans and specifications.
  • Delegate and supervise junior engineers on remediation design components and staff of professionals and technicians on remedial investigations.
  • Assist in marketing efforts for remediation design projects proposals and contract pursuits.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or closely related Engineering field
  • PE license required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing and creating plans and specifications for environmental engineering projects, such as remediation design and implementation
  • Federal Superfund Feasibility Study and Design experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent communication skills are essential and strong writing skills are required
  • Must be flexible, client focused and self-motivated
  • Experience with CERCLA process and general understanding of regulatory framework
  • Experience with RCRA hazardous waste permitting
  • Experience in preparing remedial alternative analyses/feasibility studies
  • Experience in preparing engineering reports, technical specifications and construction drawings, bid/construction documents and coordinating with equipment vendors and contractors
  • Must have field experience in remedial investigation, construction and project oversight
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including regular collaboration in an office environment
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or closely related discipline
  • 8 years of experience in remediation projects with a focus on remedial design
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training a plus
  • Experience in battery life-cycle industry a plus
  • Experience in mining or heavy industrial permitting a plus
  • Consideration given to CEP
  • AutoCAD/GIS experience
