We invite you to build your Water career at HDR. Our global team is looking for success-oriented Geotechnical Engineers to work in a number of locations on a wide variety of projects in the Dams, Levees, and Civil Works world.

HDR is seeking Geotechnical Engineers to support our expanding geotechnical section within our Dams, Levees, and Civil Works group in a variety of locations. The primary duties of the Geotechnical Engineer are to:

  • Develop geotechnical engineering designs, sketches, plans, specifications, and estimates for flood walls, levees, bank protection, and pumping station projects
  • Review design and construction submittals for geotechnical compliance with applicable codes, design standards, project requirements, and contract documents
  • Conduct slope stability, soil analysis, and other geotechnical engineering studies
  • Communication with both internal and external clients
  • Perform geotechnical technical analyses, prepare proposals and reports, and coordinate with designers and contractors to implement recommendations on plans and in the field
  • Engaged in supporting the development of the technical scope of works and fee proposals
  • Responses to RFPs related to geotechnical services
  • Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed
  • Function as Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed
  • Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or a related field)
  • Minimum 5 years experience
  • PE or ability to obtain within 12 months; those without their PE will have an EIT title
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to prepare complete, concise and organized engineering calculations and reports
  • Knowledge of relevant structural design methods, codes, and standards
  • Willingness to travel and assist with hydraulic structures inspection. Potential for becoming rope access trained, confined space entry, OSHA, or other safety training for inspections. (Travel is expected to not exceed more than 30% of the time)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree
  • Geotechnical Engineering experience on dams, levees, hydraulic Structures, railroad, and transportation infrastructure
  • Have knowledge of today's technical standards, USACA, LRFD
  • A registered professional geotechnical engineer with active participation in related professional societies (ASCE, USSD, ASDSO)
  • Proficient in geotechnical software including gINT, Slope/W, Seep /W, APILE, LPILE, GRLWeap, Settle3D (or other settlement software)
  • The ability to develop and execute designs using spreadsheets and MATHCAD
  • Preference is given to local candidates

The expected compensation range depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. The ranges for these locations are: (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)

California will be $77,154 - $125,250 annually/hourly depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.

Colorado will be $77,154 - $110,220 annually/hourly depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
