Kentucky Trailer Manufacturing/Designs and Manufactures specialty trailers and truck bodies for a broad range of global industries.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Engineering Intern will work with the Engineeringteam on a variety of specific projects and areas as noted below. This position will report directly to Scott Stewart, Sr. Director of Engineering but will have exposure to the wider business teams. Interns will complete a capstone type project over the summer culminating in a presentation to business leadership.

The student's primary responsibility is to work within a team to design and document multiple product lines. The product lines primarily revolve around semi-trailers. The long-term goal is to leverage the students existing CAD/Modeling skills while exposing the student to quote to production aspects in manufacturing. The student will work within the order processing side of Engineering with ACAD, SolidWorks, EPDM (document management system), and Syteline (MRP system). Most of the Kentucky Trailer's departments are housed in one structure, so the student will also be able to interact with Sales, Production, Operations, Purchasing, Quality, and R&D (Remote Facility).

Engineering and Product Management

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively share technical information
  • Stay current and help select and implement modern technologies
  • Share knowledge and champion best practices

Required Education and Experience:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduatedegree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Rising junior or senior
  • Strong interest in applying Engineering & Design knowledge to practical problems
  • Ability to comply with deadlines
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Interest in technology and process improvement
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • No previous experience required

Certain peak periods may provide opportunity for overtime. This is a paid position.The internship will run for 12 weeks from May to August. Exact dates flexible based on school schedules.
