What you will do

The Manufacturing Lean Engineer will be responsible for using Lean/Six Sigma principles to successfully improve the manufacturing processes and increase the Lean Culture throughout the manufacturing plant. The Lean Implementer will develop and implement projects with a focus on Value Stream in order to meet the customer demand while at the same time will achieve cost savings based on these projects. Working under the framework of Johnson Controls Continuous Improvement system, will assess current state performance, identify gaps, visualize and establish a plan to get to the future state, monitor progress and share/acquire best-in-class ideas and systems and at the same time will support and maintain the Johnson Controls Manufacturing System (JCMS).

How you will do it

  • Facilitates cross-functional expert teams to drive Best-in-Class performance in People, Quality, Material Flow, and Cost.

  • Conducts Value Stream analysis (current and Future State Value Stream Mapping).

  • Collaborates with Continuous Improvement Manager to assess the current state of the plant's Operations and to develop future state vision and implementation plan.

  • Drives multifunctional teams.

  • Assists in locating Best-in-Class Operations processes, and then works to implement them into the manufacturing processes.

  • Coaches team members in understanding Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma principles. Effective communicator in training to production employees and non-manufacturing employees.

  • Identifies and drives to implement model Lean lines/cells (Line balancing).

  • Supports and leads 5S and Visual factory activities

  • Assists in the gathering of Johnson Controls Manufacturing Systems Assessment data.

  • Using standard tracking and reporting systems, prepares detailed plans, drives project performance, and assures timely completion and achievement of product / process quality and savings goals.

  • Able to forecast cost savings of future projects, and validate savings on a monthly basis in CI TRAC Management System.

  • Collaborates with leadership to develop a plant Continuous Improvement Roadmap, bridging business metrics gaps with either: a) Just Do It improvements, b) Six Sigma projects, or c) Lean Implementation projects.

  • Accountable to deliver the plant annual CI goals.

  • Identifies barriers to project success and solicits help from champions when needed.

  • Assists the Continuous Improvement Manager in any strategic initiative that will help in compliance to standards, implementing new systems, and designing creative solutions that will continuously improve the plant.

  • Performance measured through impact to plant/area conversion cost, level of standardization created, and feedback from other team members.

  • Will likely be assigned Manufacturing Engineering duties and area responsibilities, as needed

What we look for:

  • Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field of study (i.e. Engineering, Business) one or more engineering technologies with a minimum of (3) years of experience.

  • Experience in these functions: Continuous improvement activities, Kaizen events, operations supervision/management, and manufacturing engineering.

  • proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, & PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and E-mail is required.

  • Proficient on manufacturing layouts though use of CAD Software and 3-D Modeling.

  • Knowledge and experience applying lean tools such as value stream mapping, kaizen, 5S, waste elimination, pull systems, kanban, standard work, poka yoke, problem solving processes and daily management.

  • Has a solid grasp of manufacturing principles such as process knowledge, material flow, and maintenance.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of data and analytics visualization tools such as developing PowerBI dashboards.

  • Experience providing engaging, hands on training to production and salary teams.
