Saab Inc. Land Systems division is seeking an experienced, dynamic, results-oriented Senior Field Services Engineer to support a newly established weapon system program. The candidate will deliver customer support and training, oversee and conduct diagnosis, troubleshooting, services, and repair of deployed weapon systems, and will provide feedback to the management, engineering, and production teams in terms of recommended product changes and improvements. The candidate will also perform work at suppliers' locations to assist with production and assembly process establishment and improvement.

The position will require frequent travel to multiple customer, supplier, and company locations, both domestically and internationally, to conduct the forementioned efforts. Hands-on knowledge and experience working with mechanical systems is a must. The candidate will be able to communicate effectively and respectfully while representing the company before customers, end-users and suppliers.

This is a full-time position and currently open to remote work with travel; relocation may be required to the future facility's location, at this time TBD.

Responsibilities include:

  • Be an active part of the program diverse engineering and production team to provide end-user and customer support, training, troubleshooting, repairs, and lesson-learned recommendations for product improvements, both in the office and in the field.

  • Perform work at suppliers' locations to troubleshoot a wide range of production issues, perform productivity assessments and drive to resolution, including, but not limited to, production control, process, and practices, quality, tooling, production flow, supply chain, and logistics.

  • Frequently travel to multiple field locations, including company's plant sites, suppliers' sites, field installations and deployment sites, both domestically and internationally.

  • Adhere to the company and program values when interacting with external customers, end-users, and suppliers.

  • Actively assist program management, engineering, operations, supply chain, quality, and other functional groups to mitigate identified issues and accelerate product maturation.

  • Efficiently operate in multi-company, inter-cultural environment, both domestically and internationally.

  • Work with missile and munition products, launchers, fire control systems, radars, and other associated systems.

  • Report to principal product engineer/program chief engineer.

  • Proactively identify gaps and opportunities in product capabilities, processes, production, employment, and sustainment and provide solutions to reduce associated risks.

  • Multi-task and provide support to other organizational and cross-business efforts and teams, such as product development, integration, troubleshooting, and field testing.

Compensation Range: $85,000-$106,200

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 5 years of relevant experience, or associate degree in a technical field with 8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent work experience.

  • Complete knowledge and full understanding of the professional area of specialization, practices, and principles within this experienced professional, journey-level position.

  • Intimate familiarity with industrial setting, including, but not limited to, management, production processes and principles, tools, configuration and quality control, supply chain, documentation, and safety.

  • Capability to operate in highly dynamic, multi-company, multi-cultural environment, often with limited information, demanding timelines, and export controls.

  • Ability to identify, assess, and resolve a wide range of issues in a creative, organized, and collaborative manner, using sophisticated analytical and problem-solving techniques. Capability to adapt existing, most mature approaches to resolve issues.

  • Extensive, hands-on knowledge in mechanical engineering and related disciplines. Ability to conduct necessary repairs and modifications to deployed equipment.

  • Ability to travel on a short notice. International and domestic travel is required, at least 50% on average, with occasional extended travel.

  • Ability to improve relationships and establish networks with company and program stakeholders, both internally and externally. Effectively and respectfully communicate with customers, suppliers, leadership, subordinates, and peers, both domestically and internationally.

  • Capability to work independently with minimum direction, while maintaining team communications.

  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance (active clearance preferred).

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with DoD and weapon systems (missiles, munitions, arms, and platforms), including required processes, requirements, principles, and methods.

  • Experience with ground forces (U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corp., etc.) operations and weapon systems.

  • Mechanical engineering experience in the areas of structures, material science, energetics, launchers, fire control systems, interconnects, and propulsion systems.

  • Hands-on experience with the full-rate production support and associated processes and procedures.

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
